Michele Killion
M.S., LPC-A, NCC, CCTP
I enjoy counseling with clients of all ages, but much of my experience is with adolescents and young adults. My philosophy is that adequate mental health interventions that consider the whole person can have a healing impact on your current and future self. My goal is to make clients feel safe in a non-judgmental environment so they can do the brave and important work of improving their mental health.
In therapy with me, you can expect a flexible, open-minded, and safe space for healing. I personalize your client experience by determining the best therapeutic approach for your needs. This might be cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, trauma-informed therapy, or another creative approach. I enter each client relationship recognizing, respecting, and integrating a client’s unique identity, culture, and lived experiences into the healing process.
who I see & how I work :
my specialties:
trauma
As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), I help you learn coping skills for emotional stabilization, calming the nervous system, processing trauma, and empowering you to restore a sense of safety.
chronic illness
Together, we discover how chronic illness and/or pain impact your life. We collaborate to discover tools for your mental and emotional health, which can support your physical wellness.
depression
I partner with you to understand what triggers feelings of persistent sadness and loss of interest in your life. Together, we discuss your thoughts and learn grounding and coping skills.
anxiety
We collaborate to understand what is causing worry and fear. Together, we determine where you feel anxious in your body and build calming skills to regain more control over your feelings of worry.
life transitions
Together, we discuss your emotions about a life transition you are experiencing. I assist you in processing your emotions, understanding change, and developing coping strategies to deal with changes.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate located in Rock Hill, SC. I provide in-person appointments in Rock Hill and telehealth for clients anywhere in South Carolina. I have a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. Most recently, I was a trauma and student advocacy counselor at Winthrop University. Before that I worked in Corporate Communications in the various places in which my family lived including New York, Ohio, Florida, and now South Carolina.
Outside of counseling, I love to spend time with my family and friends. I enjoy reading, re-learning how to play the piano, going to live musical performances, and playing with my dog Boots. I enjoy volunteering as a literacy tutor and in the classroom at a Title 1 school in Charlotte.
