Corey Riley, M.Ed., LPC
who I see & how I work :
I have spent most of my career working with children and teens. I particularly enjoy working with clients with ADHD, men navigating fatherhood, LGBTQ+ clients, and clients experiencing problems related to video game use.
With children under 10, I use primarily play-based interventions in tandem with ongoing parental support in implementing new parenting strategies. I believe parents have the ability to amplify growth in their children by being involved in counseling. Parents who work with me are invested in their child’s success in therapy by being active in our work together.
For adolescents and adults, you can expect me to bring a relaxed, humorous, but sometimes direct or confrontational approach to our sessions. I only believe in therapy homework sometimes! But I always believe in validating your feelings, asking the tough questions, occasionally imparting wisdom (I’m only 30, I don’t have much), and exploring creative paths to feeling better.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor located in Rock Hill, SC and the owner of Counseling with Corey. I graduated from Winthrop University in 2018 with a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I went on to work for five years as a secondary math teacher then school counselor in an alternative school for behavior. I worked part-time for a private group counseling practice starting in 2021. I left my school counseling position in 2023 to do private work full-time.
I use existential theory, CBT, mindfulness, play, Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT), walk-and-talk, and other creative approaches in my work with clients as they navigate their struggles. I also consult with parents on new parenting skills to use in tandem with therapy. I have training from the Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling in the diagnosis and treatment of Gaming Disorder in clients of all ages.
When I’m not in therapy, I’m usually spending time with my wife and our children, yapping to my friends, cooking, knitting, or drinking McDonald’s Coke.
